What Are County Lines?

County lines is a label applied used to describe the gangs and organised criminal networks that are involved in exporting and importing illegal drugs within the UK.


Why is this important?

It is essential to understand county lines as educators so we are aware of the dangers and signs in order to effectively safeguard children.


Ofsted may also ask you about county lines to check your understanding of how it affects children.

Scenario - What would you do?


Amy, one of your parents, came into the nursery her eyes were bloodshot.  When you ask Amy if everything is OK she bursts into tears stating that her older child, Hayley aged 13, did not come home last night.

She informs you that this is not the first time and the last time she said she went to Surrey to visit an old friend.

She has two mobile phones, one that she got for Christmas, and she won't tell you where she got the other phone from.

Her boyfriend is significantly older than her

And on several occasions comes home with black eyes, which she states she received from falling over

Amy also lets you know that the family is currently using foodbanks as they are having financial difficulties.  What is great about Hayley is that she helps with money sometimes as Hayley has a small Saturday job.
